A major highlight of our recent trip to the US (see more about this here) was the trip we made across the San Francisco Bay to Sausalito, where we finally got to visit the Heath Ceramics factory and store.
Heath Ceramics is my largest stockist, and one of my oldest too, so this really was something of a pilgrimage. Paul and I were taken on a wonderfully informative and fascinating tour of the factory by Cathy Bailey (whom we’d met last year in NYC), and also heard about the exciting plans for the Heath Tile Factory that’s opening in the Mission.
You can take a factory tour at the Heath Ceramics website, if you like. Click here. It really is worth a visit.
Our tour culminated in a visit to the store, where at long last, I got to see in living colour how my tea towels and napkins fit in with Heath’s beautiful products.
Just before we set off to the US, we’d posted off a couple of big boxes of tea towels and napkins that had been made up in custom colours that Cathy had picked out. It was immensely exciting to see how these colours fitted in absolutely perfectly with the Heath products, and Cathy was delighted with how it all worked together so brilliantly too.
I had always had an inkling that it was fantastic to have my things stocked by Heath Ceramics, but I have to say that actually visiting the factory, finding out more about how and why they do things the way they do, and seeing how excellently they do it, I feel pretty damn lucky to be associated with them. I have taken away from my visit a great deal of inspiration about how to conduct my business too.
Thanks for having me over, Heath Ceramics! Great to meet you all, and hope to be back again soon.
